Last week, the Switzerland-Tanzania Chamber of Commerce (STCC) had the honour of paying a courtesy visit to the Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority, @Yusuph Mwenda and his esteemed team. The meeting was held in a very cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening public-private collaboration.
🔍 Key Discussion Points:
· STCC’s willingness to establish a structured dialogue through a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) — a proposal that was warmly received by the TRA leadership.
· An expression of STCC’s interest in Tanzania pursuing a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) with Switzerland, and a request for TRA’s preliminary views.
· A general reflection of member concerns, particularly regarding predictability, clarity, and consistency in enforcement.
We appreciated TRA’s openness to hear these points. The Commissioner General emphasized TRA’s commitment to transparency and fairness in taxation, and noted ongoing efforts to simplify processes. He reiterated that TRA seeks to be a partner to the private sector – a sentiment that resonates with STCC’s goal to build stronger, collaborative ties.
🙏A heartfelt thank you to Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA). for their engagement and to our members present, DUKU TELECOMS AND ELECTRONICS Shikana Group Oryx Energies Doris Mollel Foundation @Kijiji Beach Resort for their participation in this productive meeting.
