Switzerland-Tanzania Chamber of Commerce (STCC) is delighted to have hosted an informal networking evening with a sporting twist, in honour of two exceptional Tanzanian athletes: @NEEMA PAULO SANKA and @HAMISI ATHUMANI MISAI, winners of the Kilimanjaro Marathon and now officially qualified to run the legendary Sierre-Zinal mountain race in Switzerland this summer! 🏔️
We are proud to sponsor their journey to Switzerland and had the pleasure of presenting them with official STCC flags—soon to be featured in some memorable photo moments high up in the Swiss Alps!
🎤 The evening featured:
– A testimony from @Andrew Mlugu, Tanzanian Olympian who participated at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, sharing reflections on representing Tanzania on the world stage and the value of international competition.
– A presentation from Kevin T from the @Tanzanian Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, who gave a compelling presentation about the role of sports as a cultural and economic driver in Tanzania. He highlighted the country’s ambitious infrastructure projects, including new stadiums and sports facilities, set to meet the growing demand for football – which continues to be the country’s favourite sport. With AFCON 2027 and the African Nations Championship (CHAN) just around the corner, he revealed that Tanzania is poised for a major sporting transformation.
Switzerland, home to leading international sports organizations—including the International Olympic Committee – IOC and major sports federations—is deeply committed to promoting global sports development. This shared commitment to excellence and opportunity is at the heart of our support for Tanzanian athletes like Neema and Hamisi. Their participation in Sierre-Zinal is a celebration of Swiss-Tanzanian partnership through sports.
Swiss investors now have an incredible opportunity to play a crucial role in shaping Tanzania’s rapidly growing sports industry. With major infrastructure projects underway, the demand for investment in sports is higher than ever. Tenders are already being called for these projects, signaling the exciting growth of the sector. As emphasized by Mr. Theze, broader investment in sports infrastructure is needed to unlock the country’s full potential across all athletic disciplines. Supporting these initiatives not only fosters global sporting talent but also contributes to the cultural, social, and economic development of Tanzania. There’s never been a better time to invest in the future of sports in Tanzania!
A huge thank you to our speakers, founding members SICPA (David Kagoro) and the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania (Claire Inderkummen), Members Ifakara Innovation Hub (Masoud Mnonji), Utengule Coffee Lodge (Thomas Plattner) Mudassir Kadri, MS and our guests DreamWorks Academy & Placement Center (Dr. Brenda Mitchell) who made the evening a success!
